Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå wins HC race in Poland

The World championships, the Olympic games and the Worldcup may all be done and dusted, but the mountain bike racing season is not over yet. At the HC race Jelenia Gora Trophy in Poland, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå rode to a convincing victory. Meanwhile her MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM mates José Hermida and Thomas Litscher will be competing at the Swiss Epic stage race.

The most important races of the crosscountry season are done and dusted, but for the athletes of the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM that is no reason to take things easy. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå chose to compete at the HC race Jelenia Gora Trophy in Poland last Saturday, and in doing so she was facing some strong competition: Apart from hometown hero Maja Wloszczowska the likes of Jolanda Neff, Yana Belomoina and Eva Lechner were also competing in Poland. Crashing in the first corner, Neff took herself out of contention for the win. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå on the other hand fared way better from the very start: Just as at the Worldcup finals in Andorra the Norwegian showed a strong performance, pulling clear in the lead of the race early on.

While she got caught late in the race in Andorra, Dahle Flesjå managed to stay in the lead all the way to the finish. The rider of the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM managed to control the race on the demanding circuit with its steady ups and downs, extending her lead to hometown rider Maja Wloszczowska to 1min12 on the way to her win. All the other riders lost 4 minutes and more. After finishing, the most winning rider in the history of crosscountry mountainbiking was in a mood for jokes: «Today’s the birthday of my husband and coach Kenneth, and due to this race I could not spend that day at home. So I guess I had to get this victory as a present for him.» Since the Jelenia Gora Trophy is rated as an HC race, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå also was rewarded with highly welcome 90 points for the world rankings.

José Hermida and Thomas Litscher have opted for an entirely different program to start the golden autumn season: The two riders of the MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM will be competing as a two-men team at the six-day Swiss Epic mountain bike stage race that leads from Zermatt to Leukerbad and finishes in Verbier. While this is only the 3rd edition of this race it has already become famous for its route that is equally challenging and spectacular.
